HOW DO I ARRANGE TO SIT FOR THE UNIFORM NATIONAL CPA EXAM?
Certified Public Accountants are licensed to practice by individual State Boards of Accountancy. Requirements to sit for the CPA Exam should be requested from your individual State Board. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM CORRECTLY AND RETURN IT TO YOUR STATE BOARD BEFORE THE SPECIFIED DEADLINE. Errors and/or delays may result in the rejection of your application. Be extremely careful in filling out the application and be sure to enclose all required materials. In many states, applications must be received by the State Board at least ninety days before the examination date. Complete the application in a timely manner.
Approximately one month before the exam, check to see that your application to sit for the exam has been processed. DON'T ASSUME THAT YOU ARE PROPERLY REGISTERED UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR CANDIDATE ID NUMBER.
Certified Public Accountants are licensed to practice by individual State Boards of Accountancy under the laws and regulations of the individual states. Requirements as to education, experience, internship, and other matters vary. If you have not already done so, take a moment to call the appropriate State Board for specific requirements.
MAY I TAKE THE EXAM IN A DIFFERENT STATE?
It may be possible to sit for the exam in another state as an out-of-state candidate. Candidates wishing to do so should first contact the State Board of Accountancy in their home state.
WHERE ELSE CAN I GET AUTHORITATIVE INFORMATION?
The AICPA publishes a booklet entitled Information for CPA Candidates, usually distributed by State Boards of Accountancy to candidates upon receipt or acceptance of their applications.
