Successfully completing the uniform CPA exam requires attention to detail as much as it does mastering the subject areas. In order to sit for the uniform CPA exam in North Dakota, students need to prepare a checklist and follow through on several standard
requirements and guidelines which include the following. Please note that these requirements may change at any time, so it is best to contact your state board of accountancy prior to applying for the exam or paying any fees.

Educational Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree with 150 semester hours
  • 24 hours in accounting courses
  • 24 hours in general business courses

Note: Student may sit for exam before completing education as long as education is completed within six months of sitting for first exam

Application and testing process:

  • An application and initial fee must be submitted to the state board of accountancy prior to scheduling an exam.
  • Official copies of all transcripts should be submitted at time of application for proper consideration.
  • A “Notice to Schedule” should arrive in 4 to 8 weeks after the application has been submitted.
  • All tests are administered at regional Prometrics testing centers.
  • The first test can be scheduled within six months of the accepted application in North Dakota.
  • Applicants have a total of 18 months to take the entire series of four exams; scheduling up to four months in advance is strongly recommended.
  • Each exam is assigned a testing window.
  • Students who don’t receive a passing grade the first time must retake the exam during the next open testing window.

On the day of exam students need to bring:

  • NTS paperwork and photo ID.
  • Photo ID and information on the ID must match the NTS form precisely or student will not be allowed to take the exam.
  • Refunds not granted for improper ID.

Receiving CPA Exam Scores

Upon completing each section of the exam, candidates can obtain their scores online once NASBA has released the information. They can also elect to have exam scores mailed to them.
